Many of the
non-profit organizations that support the fight against cancer tend to focus on
raising money for research purposes. They don’t always do much to help cancer
fighters and survivors emotionally. This is the reason why I’m so supportive of
the Send Me On Vacation organization and the close and personal impact it has
on women who are going through the devastating effects of cancer.
Having been
part of the travel industry for so many years, I’m well aware of the relaxing
and rejuvenating effects of a getaway vacation on the mind, body and soul.
Famous naturalist John Muir recognized the healing power of nature when he
said, “Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray
in, where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to the body and soul
alike.”
I truly enjoy
helping people in need and create positive changes in the world. As part of
spearheading Travel To Go’s campaign for a "Year of Giving Back", I
recently became Co-Chair at Send Me On Vacation. Many women who have fought
cancer will tell you about the physical aspects of the battle but may not be
willing to admit how difficult cancer can be on their emotional well-being
their families and friends. Send Me On Vacation believes these strong women
need a well-deserved vacation that will help them heal emotionally. This
holistic “journey” gives them the chance to celebrate the first day of the rest
of their lives as a survivor. Taking part of Send Me On Vacation’s latest
retreat in Hawaii and seeing the healing effects of the program with my own
eyes made me realize how proud I am to support such an amazing organization.
