"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." — Mark Twain
Traveling close to home or halfway around the world opens a multitude of opportunities, such as meeting new people, experiencing new cultures, trying new foods, or seeing famous landmarks and natural wonders with your own eyes. Traveling also gives you a chance to create long-lasting memories, whether you spend that time by yourself, with your family or with friends.
Even more importantly, traveling enables you to get away from the daily routine and free up your spirit. You come back more relaxed and re-energized, full of those inspiring and creative juices your mind released while away from home. A change of scenery and daily rhythm can have tremendous benefits to your physical and emotional health. This is undoubtedly why I am so devoted to The Send Me On Vacation organization. They truly understand the healing effects of travel. That’s why the philanthropic group sends women battling cancer on a much-needed vacation to help them heal their body, mind and spirit away from home.
Here are a few ways to extend the joy of travel after you come back from your trip:
- Don’t just download your photos on your hard drive and never look at them again. Remember your trip by printing the best ones and putting them up on the walls around your house.
- Recreate some of the recipes you enjoyed so much in your own kitchen and share them with family and friends.
- Spot the favorite places you’ve visited in movies, books, famous photographs and pieces of art.
- Get inspired and start planning your next trip - find out what else this beautiful world has to offer.
What joys has travel brought you and your family?
