Surround yourself with winners ~ Tommy Middaugh

Have you noticed how much happier you feel when you surround yourself with people who have a positive attitude? Successful and happy people tend to share the same attribute: they surround themselves with like-minded people. To be successful in a specific area of your life, you have to associate yourself with other people who are already successful. They are the ones who will teach you the secrets of the trade, guide you in your journey, and help you reach your full potential.

I recommend you read a great book on happiness and positive thinking called The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work by Shawn Achor. Full of research data and real life examples, this book can guide you in making specific changes at home and at work to achieve your full happiness potential and live an extraordinary life.

Surrounding yourself with the right people in your business ventures is also crucial. It will lead you to win rather than just play the game or even worse, sit on the sidelines watching your competitors win. In Playing to Win: How Strategy Really Works, A.G. Lafley details five major strategic choices that will move you ahead of your competitors:

1.  What is our winning aspiration?
2.  Where will we play?
3.  How will we win?
4.  What capabilities must we have in place to win?
5.  What management systems are required to support our choices?

Once you have defined your business strategy, surround yourself with people displaying a winning mindset and positive attitude to implement your strategy successfully. As Colin Powell said, “Surround yourself with people who take their work seriously, but not themselves, those who work hard and play hard.”
